Welcome to 'Malayalam'
Free Software localisation initiative for
malayalam. An project by Bureau of Industries Promotions -
Kerala in association with APDIP and FSF India.
Project aims to deliver softwares localised in Malayalam.
It also creates basic infrastructure required for further development
of software in Malayalam. Kerlites around the world will be
able to use their favourite Free Software in there mother tongue.
Software and computing becoming accessible to thousands of
English illiterate people in Kerala.
Hilights of the Project
- Development of Free Malayalam font

- Study and Document font and encoding standards
- Create localised versions of applications
- Basic Desktop (Gnome)

the GNOME Desktop and Developer Platform. Pango
module for Malayalam works with Gnome 2.

Announcement: Agreement
Signed for Free Software for Malayalam

|
Kerala
Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP) has entered
into an agreement with Free Software Foundation
of India (FSF) for development of scalable Malayalam
font. For the first time, Unicode-based
desktop with Malayalam support including its tool
kits and localized applications will
also be created as part of this project.
The agreement was signed in the presence
of Kerala Industries Minister Mr. P. K. Kunhalikutty,
by Mr. Ajay Kumar, Secretary (Industries)
and Dr. E. Krishnan, Director, Free Software
Foundation.
